The Jay and Deen Kogan Award is honored to recognize every year the newest recipient whose work reflects the preservation of literary excellence and achievement.
Nominees are reviewed each year to make sure they are participating and cultivating a greater appreciation and pride in America’s literary heritage by publishing, and keeping permanently in print, authoritative editions of America’s best and most significant writing within the genre of noir.
This year we celebrate Marcia Muller and Bill Pronzini as the 2022 recipient for their efforts within the publishing medium for maintaining the time honored tradition of noir.
BP: Enjoyable. Writing is a lonely profession; living with another professional makes it easier, and the fact that we share a similar approach to writing fiction easier still. MM: I echo what Bill says. Even with our solo novels, we talk over problems and read each other’s pages.
Marcia Muller & Bill Pronzini are a husband and wife writing duo.
Marcia Muller is an American author of fictional mystery and thriller novels. Muller has written many novels featuring her Sharon McCone female private detective character. Vanishing Point won the Shamus Award for Best P.I. Novel. Muller had been nominated for the Shamus Award four times previously. In 2005, Muller was awarded the Mystery Writers of America’s Grand Master award.
Bill Pronzini is an American writer of detective fiction. He is also an active anthologist, having compiled more than 100 collections, most of which focus on mystery, western, and science fiction short stories. Pronzini is known as the creator of the San Francisco-based Nameless Detective, who starred in over 40 books from the early 1970s into the 2000s.
